Tuesday Tunes #8: song for current feelings

Oh my goodness, hello Tuesday! I'm posting a little later than usual, but better late than never (am I right?)...Tuesday Tunes is a weekly link-up I started awhile back to share musical discoveries, promote local artists, and gather inspiration. The February prompts above are just ideas, but anyone is welcome to share any type of musical post desired. Link-up below and share the music love!

My pick of the week: "We Can't Stop"
My current mood is pretty peppy these days. I've been getting more things done by creating more of a schedule and to-do lists for myself. Check, check, checkin' things off feels good! So the song representative of this is "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus. This version is the coolest with The Roots and Jimmy Fallon. The A Capella makes it pretty impressive. Enjoy lovelies!

Your turn! I'd love to hear what you're listening to these days or an artist you recommend or want to promote :)

Tuesday Tunes #7: Letter 'N'

Hello and thanks for checking out Tuesday Tunes!

This is a weekly link-up I started awhile back to share musical discoveries, promote local artists, and gather inspiration. The February prompts above are just ideas, but anyone is welcome to share any type of musical post desired. Link-up below and share the music love!

My Weekly Pick: Letter 'N' song
{ source }

Looking through my iTunes, some great songs I haven't heard in awhile came up. I chose 'Naita' by Ojos de Brujo. This band is such a fun, spirited, and unique fusion group from Barcelona. They infuse their beats with flamenco, Middle-Eastern sounds, hip hop, and some jazz. Great sounds they've got going on.

Their music also reminds me of my time in Spain. I spent a year 'studying' in Granada but mostly partying, traveling, and learning about life. Oh, sweet memories :)

Tuesday Tunes #6: lovely romantic song

Welcome, lovelies. If you're just tuning in, Tuesday Tunes is a weekly link-up to share musical discoveries, promote local artists, and gather inspiration. The February prompts above are just ideas, but anyone is welcome to share any type of musical post desired. Also, hashtag #TuesTunes on Twitter and I'll retweet you :)

My Vweek Pick:

Clean Bandit, "Rather Be" (feat. Jess Glynne)

This song is sure to get you up and groovin'! I stumbled across it on Spotify the other day and really enjoyed it. It's very romantic and just a happy song. This is one great line:
"We're a thousand miles from comfort, we have traveled land and sea. But as long are with me, there's no place I'd rather be"

With that, I dedicate this to all my loves, but especially a cat named Rafa. Miau!

Tuesday Tunes #5: a new discovery

Good morning all and welcome! I decided to keep going with Tuesday Tunes because it's a fun thing for me and maybe you too :) It's a link-up to share musical inspirations, according to prompts above or whatever you feel like if it's music related. Tuesday Tunes is open all month, but Tuesday is the day to post it up! (thanks to alliteration!)

Feb. 4th, a new discovery: Ayla Nereo

This lady has a wistful way of bringing nature and spirit into musical form. She shares a lot of love and consciousness through her music. I just found her a few weeks ago, looking up music and kept listening to more. She's also from Sonoma County, a place dear to my heart and where I lived for several years. Lovely way to start the day!
This song is a cover of Feist, called 'How Come You Never Go There'. I love the loop peddle here! It's so fun how artists can create a full-on band with just their voice.
Ayla's website. You can listen to her new album there too;)

Tuesday Tunes { Link-Up #4}

Hello lovelies and happy day! The end of January already?! This month I've been running Tuesday Tunes and opening it up to you with a link-up. Thanks to wonderful participants thus far for joining! If you'd still like to join, it's open through next Tuesday.

Essentially, I created this to share new artists I discover and spread musical inspiration through this blog. You can post a little bit about the song/artist you chose or anything you'd like to share. Choose to follow the fun prompts above or do otherwise, as you're inspired. The idea is to share some musical inspiration and create a positive vibe in the community. Here's mine and the link-up is below. Feel free to grab the button I made :)

My Pick of the Week:
You know when you hear a song and love it but don't know who it's by? I'd heard this song a few times and had that experience. It came up on my Pandora station (yay - it doesn't work in Peru), so I checked out the group and really like all of their stuff. Especially the singer's voice.

The feeling it gives me is kind of nostalgic and sweet. It takes about giving time and space, even when it's really hard. It's kind of what Rafa and I are going through now, to a small extent. While it's a challenge to be away, I really am glad for the opportunity to be apart to miss each other. It's a good practice in growing appreciation....oh, and PATIENCE!

It's called "Let Her Go" by Passenger.

Link-up Guidelines
1. Share your musical post. Use whatever platform works for you - YouTube, SoundCloud, Vimeo, etc.
2. Link back to this site so others can join in the fun! You're welcome to use the button I created below :)
3. Link-up on Tuesday(s). Tuesdays are ideal (because alliteration is awesome), but the link-up is open all month long.
4. Browse some other musical posts from the link-up and leave some love for the wonderful ladies.

Tuesday Tunes Link-up #3: Inspiration

Good morning all! It's another strangely spring-esque beautiful day here in California...like where's the rain!? I'm hoping it comes to visit us soon 'cuz we sure need it!

Welcome to Tuesday Tunes, a musical link-up about sharing a song or artist of your choice. If you choose to participate (you know you wanna!) you can follow the themes above or just go with your own. Also, there is just 1 more week for this link-up, so hop on :) Read more below!

My Inspirational Pick:
His name is Jackie Wilson, known by many as 'Mr. Excitement'. This artist made his doo woop/soul/blues music popular in the same time period of the severe racism in America. I imagine the significance he held for the black community at that time to make it to where he was. He went viral in the 1950's and 60's and after watching the video I understand why. His music is just so catchy and happy. Jackie and Elvis very much respected and were inspired by each other. I was just surprised I'd never heard of or recognized his name before. But it seems very fitting in honor of MLK and black rights.

There are some interesting stories and history on this blog if you want to read more, Jackie Wilson Lover.

Tuesday Tunes Link-up #2: Flashback Favorite!

Hello all and happy Tuesday! Last week I started my first real link-up with Tuesday Tunes....meaning today is number 2 - woo I'm excited!! I'll share mine and invite you to join in too (below)!

Today I'm going with the prompt for the 14th and bringing it back to my second year of high school. I've always liked lots of different kinds of music but at this time I was pretty into alternative music. Simple Plan, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, you know... It was that slightly awkward, angsty, wanting-a-boyfriend-really-bad-and-not-completely-comfortable-with-yourself time. At least for me. So at the time, this music was a big comfort that related to my world. Looking back, I love that awkward time and the things I would do. So here it is - my theme song of the time: I'd Do Anything by Simple Plan.

Do you have a flashback favorite? I've also seen a few musical posts today and invite you to share and link-it-up! Post a little bit about the song/artist you chose or anything you'd like to share. You can choose to follow the fun prompts below or do otherwise, as you're inspired. The idea is to share some musical inspiration and create a positive vibe in the community.

Tuesday Tunes
January 7: new discovery

Gaby Moreno! This lovely woman totally had me from the first song I heard. I browse through NPR Tiny Desk concerts and KEXP sessions often and that's how I found her. She's a spunky lady with bluesy, soulful voice and she creates some really passionate tunes. Another reason I love her is that she's strong in her Guatemalan roots and has an album in Spanish. I'm posting two songs to give more of a flavor of her and to hear both in English and Spanish. Isn't she a gem?!?

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Gratitude + Funky Tunes for New Years! {Tuesday Tunes #20}

Greetings beings!

Sending lots of gratitude to 2013 and everyone who came across my path. I'm really jazzed about this blog and the awesome ladies I've met so far.  It's been hard at times and I've struggled with laziness, but I enjoy having something constant to call back on, a type of visual journal open to the world. This year a goal is to be braver in my blog. I want to be more personal and share more of the 'ups', but especially push myself to sharing some 'downs'. After all, that's real life.

So thank you for stopping by, saying hi and sharing with me too. Becoming part of this international-awesome-lady-blogging community has been an incredible gift this year. You all are so special and I'd hug every one of you if I could. I suppose *ehugs* will have to do. Well...I would love to share some soulful funky tunes for your day. I just found this one now, but really like it.
Artist: Raphael Saadiq
Songs: "Love That Girl" -- "100 Yard Dash" -- "Sure Hope You Mean It"

Also, my BFF has a radio show and I'm about to join today! There's a live stream from 10am-12pm (Pacific time) and can be heard at radiovalencia.fm. What fun!!

Any new music you're all about??

Tuesday Tunes #18: Trombone Shorty

Welcome to Tuesday Tunes, where I share a musical inspiration or discovery for the week. Please feel free to do the same. Shortly I will be adding a link-up form so it will actually be a 'thing'. Woo get excited!!

Today's feature is a big band New Orleans favorite, and amazing musician - Trombone Shorty (and Orleans Avenue). When I hear this kind of big band, horns and all music it just makes me want to get down and dance it out. It's so contagious! I'm just organizing and packing things and playing this short playlist is perfect. Hope you like (it may be impossible to not)!

Glad you stopped by today, happy week!

Tuesday Tunes #17: Local Natives

Oh happy day! I suppose it's actually night now, but I'll go with the rhythm (also because we saw a lovely choir show last night and this motivating song stayed in my head)...Busy and long days before the holidays have commenced! Like I mentioned, we're on the prowl for a little department in Lima, which is quite a feat because of our specifications (in part due to proximity to work). We've been stalking internet websites with offers, calling people, and I've been squeezing in some visits during the day. Something's on its way we hope...Send some good thoughts our way that we find something before I go to visit the states so Rafa doesn't have to do everything by himself!

Tuesday Tunes

So it's still Tuesday and I want to share this band that I'd just heard of last week. Truly, I've have them on play pretty much non-stop since then. Their style is upbeat, harmonious, and heart-felt. It makes me feel like driving to the beach and blasting this. I find it pretty nice and relaxing, with a fun edge - and at least half the band have some impressive mustaches. Now, have a little listen!

Artist: Local Natives
Song: Ceilings
Recommended: Airplanes; Wide Eyes

How is your holiday season going?

Tuesday Tunes #16

Hey there! I'm back from my little trip. And thanks to some awesome ladies and our cooking skills, it was really wonderful. I'm so lucky to have these good people in my life :)

This morning I luckily stumbled upon this amazing song-writer and performer, Lucy Spraggan. She has such a way of story-telling. I found myself listening, as if she were reading a book to me. Her music is full of emotions from joyous to reminiscent. It seems most fitting to start out the day by sharing this upbeat song, Lighthouse.

What do you think? Have a great day!

Tuesday Tunes #15

Poetry slams. Have you ever heard a performance? I am transformed by the energy and words that are so eloquently and creatively expressed. It's like musical lyrics that tell a story. Stories of people. It seems like that is what's all too often lost in the music on the radio today.

So today I decided to open the scope of Tuesday Tunes to include slam poetry. Because this story is real. It's infuriating and refreshing to hear truth spoken. I hope it inspires something in you, like it did in me. Lauren Zuniga (www.laurenzuniga.com).

Power and strength to unfairly incarcerated women. And that this brings a point of reflection on the prison system.

Any thoughts?? Join in the link-up if you have a song or slam to share!

Weekly Wishes + Tuesday Tunes #14

Good day all! It's been way too long since I've participated in Melyssa's Weekly Wishes, so today I'm excited to connect with these lovely women again. I really love this link-up because it's a nice little push to inspire me with accomplishing some things that have been on my to-do list. So first Weekly Wishes and below is my music pick of the day for Tuesday Tunes.

Since I haven't participated much lately, I'll just share that I accomplish something from my Lima bucket list! We went to Pachacamac ruins, about an hour from the city (another post coming soon).

Now here are my aspirations for this week.
1) Start going through things. In December I'm going back to California for awhile and my hubby is moving to another place in Lima (somewhat stressful, but poco a poco). So I'd like to start going through things this week, purging, and organizing a bit to prepare for the move/trip.
2) Be thankful. I'd like to use this as my mantra and thread it through everyday. And I'll participate in one of these thankfulness projects I'm seeing around blogland and admiring so much.
3) Catch up on my online class. This week, I'm getting back on track to finish out my class! It's really enjoyable and opening my perspective on education. I can't wait to do this one!

*   *   *

And here's the musical portion of the post! I started Tuesday Tunes (14 weeks ago) because I love finding and sharing new artists and music. Here is where I share a song and a little bit about the artist or how I found them.

This week, my props go out to the T Sisters. These girls have some of the most beautiful harmonies, with a classic, folksy twang. I kind of fell in love with them and their music when I went to a variety show in Oakland, in which they were all dressed up with fun costumes (who wouldn't love that?)! This song is their version of Paul Simon's American Tune and it just really hits a deep spot in me. Go T Sisters!

Please link-up with Tuesday Tunes if you love music-discovering too! Have a beautiful day.

Tuesday Tunes #13

Hey lovelies - it's Tuesday and time to share a new tune I'm loving. If you feel like linking up, you're welcome to! Last week I was busy and unable to post a tune, sorry about that. So here's my pick for the week...

Joyce Jonathan! I actually found this artist from Anna's blog at East See Do, when she shared some really lovely French music. This beat is called "รงa Ira" and is a guaranteed toe-tapper. I really like the whimsical sound, maybe French music in general does that.

Do you have a favorite French song?

Tuesday Tunes #12

Hey there! It's Tuesday Tunes, where I share a new musical discovery with you and invite you to join in too. In last week's post my husband shared his musical pick {see it here}. And this week's pick is a a guaranteed booty shaker...

I don't remember exactly how I found Miriam Makeba, but it was part of my on-going artists to check out. After hearing her music and learning more about her, I saw huge role  she played in history. Actually, I felt a bit ashamed I hadn't known of her before.

Makeba was a South African activist and singer, who shared about her country and the difficulties during the Apartheid. She was the first African voice to spread this message and music worldwide. Makeba became known as "Mama Africa" and is most famous for this song below.

Cheers to strong women, like Makeba. May the legend live on in us today.

Now get groovin'..."Pata, Pata", Miriam Makeba.

Do you have a favorite woman artist you admire? What qualities do you admire?
